Point of Resilience in Kyiv - Standing with Ukraine Through Winter

Point of Resilience in Kyiv

The Washington Ukrainian Humanitarian Center in partnership with the Orthodox Church of Ukraine have helped fund and support a Point of Resilience in Kyiv's Troieshchyna neighborhood — an area where many high-rise residential buildings remain without heat due to Russia's ongoing attacks on critical infrastructure.

The Point of Resilience serves as a lifeline for the community. Here residents can:

  • Warm up in a heated space
  • Receive a hot meal
  • Charge their phones and essential devices
  • Find safety, connection, and support

In addition, we have begun working directly with the State Emergency Service of Ukraine to assist people who cannot leave their homes. These are the quiet emergencies — the elderly woman trapped on an upper floor without an elevator, the man recovering from illness with no one to bring supplies. By responding to these urgent requests, we help ensure that the most vulnerable residents are not left behind.

What began as an energy crisis has become a humanitarian emergency. Families are freezing inside their own homes. Elderly residents are trapped in high-rise apartments — without electricity, elevators do not function, and many are physically unable to walk down dozens of flights of stairs to seek warmth. In some homes, indoor temperatures have dropped below zero.

We remain committed to sustaining and expanding this critical project. Our efforts include:

  • Purchasing food and warm blankets
  • Providing essential winter supplies
  • Raising funds to purchase generators where they are urgently needed
