For several years, Washington Ukrainian Humanitarian Center has been supporting an ongoing project in Ukraine called Syte Misto (“Sated City”).
This initiative continues to provide far more than meals. Each time food is served, more than 100 people come for a hot, nourishing meal. Many of the guests are elderly. Some walk slowly and carefully, others arrive quietly and say very little. Each person carries a story, and each one comes with a need not only for food, but for care, dignity, and human connection.
When they walk in, there is a natural human response—to want to embrace them, to let them know they are seen, and to remind them that they are not forgotten.
Syte Misto is more than a meal program. It is a place of warmth and rest. A space to sit down, to breathe, and to feel human again. It is also a place of community—where people can meet, talk, and reconnect with others. For many, it is a space where they can hear the word of God and find spiritual encouragement.
This ongoing project is a reminder that humanitarian support is not only about meeting physical needs, but also about restoring dignity, connection, and hope.
The most important thing in doing good is simple, yet powerful: to keep going. Not to stop.
